Diet, the Global Obesity Epidemic and Prevention
In 2008, 34% of adults globally (1.46 billion) were clinically over weight and obese. Of these, 502 million were obese. This is a twofold increase over the last 30 years. Increases in mean Body Mass Index (BMI) were highest in the United States concerning the high-income country category. Nauru in the Oceania had the greatest gain in BMI globally. China is expected to have the largest number of over-weight and obese people in 2030. Overweight and obesity are major risk factors for heart disease, diabetes and some cancers. Overweight and obesity account for approximately 10% of medical costs globally. Abdominal obesity is a risk factor of the metabolic syndrome that includes high blood pressure, elevated blood sugars, high ‘bad’ cholesterol levels, and high triglycerides. The metabolic syndrome affects 20-30% of the global adult population. Seychelles, a middle-income country, had a 16% increase in metabolic syndrome rate during a 15 year period. South Korea, a high-income country, had a 6% rise during a 7 year period. The obesity epidemic and resulting metabolic syndrome prevalence are partly due to a global nutrition transition from plant-based foods to consumption of a more energy-dense diet that is high in animal fat, sugar and processed foods. The diet is also lower in fiber. Sedentary lifestyles are a factor in the global obesity epidemic. Addressing obesity and resulting diseases is a national and global priority. Recent studies have demonstrated the potential protective benefit of a healthy diet high in whole grains, fruit, vegetables and fish to prevent metabolic syndrome. There are emerging consistencies in characteristics of diets that offer protection. Similarly diets high in animal fat, salt and pickled food have shown associations with detrimental characteristics. Recent findings indicate that recommendations for healthy diet patterns are equally applicable in all ethnic populations. Effective universal nutrition guidelines are possible.

Obesity and other nutrition-related diseases can add to the financial downfall of any nations' budget. Our nation may be headed towards recession according to most economists. I like a recent quote from T. D. Jakes, "A recession is a correction." What a nation eats can change it's monetary future.
Proverbs 25:21 "If thine enemy...be thirsty, give him water to drink." NKJV
Ecc 10:10 The duller the ax, the harder the work
The more we use our brains, the less we have to labor.

Top 10 reasons not to diet
- Diets don't work. You lose weight and gain it back (weight cycle), often regaining more than you lost.
- Dieting is dangerous. It causes many deaths and injuries every year.
- Deits are expensive and without value.
- Dieting causes fatigue, lightheadeness, saps energy and strength.
- Dieting disrupts normal eating, causes bingeing, overeating and chaotic eating.
- Dieting increases food preoccupation, so much of your day is spent thinking about food and weight.
- Dieting diminishes women, subverting their dreams and ambitions, keeping them playing the anticipation game. There is more to life than dieting and looking perfect.
- Dieting decreases self-esteem, feelings of well-being. Instead, accepting and respecting yourself as you are brings confidence, health and a sense of wellness and wholeness.
- Dieting stunts mental and physical growth and development of young people.
- Dieting increases size prejudice, makes people more judgmental and critical of themselves and others.

Crops affect world hunger. Weather affects crops. How leaders worship affect weather. Pray for our leaders and for new Godly leaders. I Kings 16:33,17:1 "Ahab did more to provoke the Lord God of Israel to anger than all the kings of Israel before him...And Elijah...said to Ahab...there shall not be dew nor rain these years..."
The Bottom Lines Regarding Diabetes:
1) The best way to dodge diabetes is to lose (or not gain) extra pounds/kilograms.
2)Limit sweets, especially sugar-sweetened drinks. Even the naturally occurring sugars in 100% fruit juice may raise your risk.
3) Eat leafy greens, whole grains, beans, and nuts to boost your magnesium.
4) Get the RDA (Recommended Daily Allowance) for vitamin D (600 IU a day up to age 70 & 800 IU over 70) from supplements or foods fortified with vitamin D.
5) Do at least 30 minutes of brisk walking or other aerobic exercise every day.
6) Do 2-3 strength training sessions a week. Each should include 8-13 repetitions of 8-10 exercises.

Eat for you, your nation & the next generations.
We are vulunerable & missing out. There are many species of fruit & vegetables that most people have not tasted or even tried. Did you know that the apple orginially came from the Tien Shan Mountains of China (what is now Kazakhstan)? The potato came from Peru. There are thousands of different kinds of plant foods (eg. potatoes) but consumer demand has caused us to only grow a few varieties. In the case of the potato, mainly one kind, Russett, is grown because of the demand of McDonalds french fries. These monocultures are very vulunerable to insects & viruses. That is why so many chemicals are sprayed on the crops and probably why cancers are so prevalent in America. Farmers are losing money every year and forced to sell their land because of the risky farming business of growing only one species of a crop. Pray for and support farmers who adopt growing many varieties of produce. Get educated, buy & eat many varieties of produce to lessen plant blights, world hunger & human disease.
