Disordered Eating
Help STOP the spread of eating disorders
- STOP praising people for weight loss
- Encourage following NATURAL CUES to regulate eating, including hunger, appetite, fullness & cravings
- Teach RESPECTFUL REFUSAL of foods
- STOP commenting negatively on body weights, shapes or what you & others are eating
- LISTEN to the underlying messages when children describe feeling different because of their size or shape or when they suddenly decide to change their eating
- Suggest HEALTHY STRESS RELIEVERS for negative emotions instead of eating
- Seek PROFESSIONAL HELP for those struggling with weight or eating issues
- AVOID DIETING unless under professional supervision
- DO NOT RECOMMEND weight loss as a method to "feel better about yourself". SELF-ACCEPTANCE & care must come first to acheive lasting health
